How the Psychology of Colors Can Improve Your Home

Colors are important. We don’t need to tell you that. They affect our mood in different ways and alter how we see things. From the color of the walls to the color of your accent pieces, your artwork, color is important in everything! We’ve got some examples of what colors to use in which rooms and why, featuring Design Seeds!

Blue is the most productive color! Which means this color should go into your office. It’s the color that invokes serenity and productivity and it’s the most used color for offices, conference rooms, and study rooms. It also helps curb your appetite! Blue is often most used in corporate business logos because its constructive and not invasive.

 

Green means tranquility and health. Green is the color of health, nature and money money money money! Use greens in your bedroom to achieve that tranquility you so rightly deserve. Green is also known for helping people heal better when they have a cold or a stomach ache. Green has always been a color that represents fertility and was actually a wedding gown color choice back in the day, like 15th century! Notice that the green M&M is the hottest one….

 

 

Pink is calming, soothing and warm. But also invokes sweetness! Duh. This is a great color for a kid’s bedroom between newborn and 5 years old. For a wall color, this keeps the room bright and calm even in the middle of winter! Pink is also a color that represents love and romance when paired with red and most often used during that one holiday…Pink’s seen as a pretty feminine color so it’s used in a lot brands specific to women like Victoria’s Secret and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Yellow increases the metabolism, brightens the room and gives you energy! So that means this color is PERFECT for the kitchen! Yellow is such a cheerful color that gives off a sunshine vibe that everyone needs. Do NOT put this in your baby’s room because apparently yellow makes babies cry :/ Don’t overuse yellow! The best ways to bring yellow into the kitchen are potted sunflowers, dishes, curtains and maybe a hint of color in the walls!

Lavender calms the nerves and induces relaxation. It’s why lavender tea is good for chilling you out. A perfect color the living room! It’s a bit unconventional for the living room but why not try it out? Start small with a ru But lavender and hues like it have been known to represent royalty, wealth, success and wisdom. Notice something? These are all attributes people strive to achieve in their life. Color is so powerful it can help you out more than you realize!

Red encourages your appetite! So it is the best fit for a dining room! If you’re too afraid to paint the walls red, get dining chairs in red, add a red centerpiece, a red rug! Red evokes strong emotions, intense passion. Why do you think so many restaurants use red in their logos? From McDonald’s to Applebee’s to KFC, red is a subtle poke to your stomach. We’re hungry right now just looking at it! So limit your red to the kitchen or dining room where appetites can be be satisfied!
