Want to make sure your home is ready for all that holiday company coming in? We’re here to help!

10. De-Clutter

Luggage is great for transporting items, but no one likes living out of a suitcase even when it’s only for a couple days. Use company as motivation to de-clutter so you can have an empty drawer or some free closet space for your guests to put their things.

9. Keep ‘em Hydrated

Getting up in the middle of the night for a glass of water can turn into an unwanted adventure in an unfamiliar house. Provide your guests with bottled water in their room to avoid any awkward, late night collisions.

8. Towels

Being a houseguest can be stressful for the guest and host alike.  Reduce guests’ anxiety by providing them with towels in their room. This will keep guests from having to riffle through drawers and closets… which is a perk for you, too.

7. Warm and Cozy

Everyone has a separate sleep style. Stomach, side, back or a combination of them all. That goes for pillows and blankets, too. Give your guests options with multiple blankets and pillows to customize their comfort and get a great night’s sleep. Use a storage bed as the perfect place to keep all those extras on hand.

6. Essentials

In a perfect world, guests would come prepared with all their toiletry needs. But in the hectic holiday season, even the most prepared traveler can forget an essential item. If your guests will be using a different bathroom than the one you primarily use, take extra care to provide basic items like toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner and soap.

5. Charging Station

Make sure there is an easily accessible electrical outlet free for all your guests’ charging needs. If possible, free up an outlet close to a nightstand or desk so that all the cell phones, tablets, e-Readers and laptops have a safe and stable place charge.

4. Lighten Up

If you don’t spend much time in your spare room, check all the lights to ensure the bulbs haven’t burnt out. You don’t want to leave your guests in the dark.

3. Keep ‘Em Entertained

A television is a great addition to a guest room, but if that’s not an option, add a few magazines so they have some entertainment to help them wind down at the end of the day or in the morning while waiting for everyone to get up.

2. Have a Seat

Don’t force your guests to be bedridden while in their room. Add an accent chair to give them a place to read those magazines or at least a bench or ottoman to sit and put on their shoes!

1. Be Flexible

Don’t have a guest room? No problem! Your guests can feel at home in any room with a sofa sleeper. Stylish and comfortable, sofa sleepers are the best option to turn any area into a spare room.

Whether your guests have their own wing of the house, or they’re just winging it on a sofa sleeper, the most important rule for hosting company is to have fun and enjoy time with your loved ones.
