It’s fall and my favorite television shows are back on air! There’s a lot to love about primetime television – the jokes, the plots, the clothes! But what I love most about television shows are the sets on which they are filmed. The show decorators always have the best taste!

Growing up, my family and I would watch “The Brady Bunch.” Their home, filled with bold color and shag carpet, seemed so hip compared to our traditional home. Funny to think of it now, but my mom envied Alice. She could cook in the kitchen and keep an eye on the children in the living room – such a luxury for the busy mom! Maybe she envied Carol’s sense of design too, because she’s still partial to the fabric sofa. But my mom’s not too out of style – many have now put a modern twist on the Brady’s living room!

Then came the college obsession with “Friends.” Us girls related to the bad dates and the ups and downs of adulthood. Just as the show premiered, I moved into my first apartment. I bought oversized coffee cups, covered in large polka dots. I searched flea markets for vintage accessories like candlesticks and rugs. I even painted my walls purple! “Friends” made mismatched dishes and flea market finds must haves! We have Monica and Rachel to thank for today’s obsession with shabby chic décor and the idea that no room is complete without a white sofa!

I still love vintage, but now my vintage finds have a retro feel. When we redesigned our home office, I had to have the chairs from Don Draper’s office! Thanks to “Mad Men,” mid century furnishings have become increasingly popular.

Decorators are mixing the 1960s sleek metal with leather and wood for a mixture of pieces. The result is an updated room with a tribute to this iconic era.

Alright, now I am even more excited for the fall TV schedule! I wonder which show will spark the next hot trend and what iconic piece of furniture we’ll be adding this year… Which television show inspires your decorating style?
