Storage in the home is so important. But not all storage was created equal. What works in the dining room won’t work in the living room and what works in the bedroom won’t work in the kitchen. Plus there’s small spaces versus larger spaces and then kid’s bedrooms and their clutter. It’s a whole lot to think about. But don’t sweat it, because as usual we have some tips to get you started!
Living rooms tend to accumulate the most clutter. Between kids and animals and just general laziness, things tend to pile up. Don’t just get some flimsy TV stand, whose sole is to hold your TV up. Get a media credenza that can hold your DVDs, magazines and anything else that may litter the floor or coffee table. A bookcase is a must-have for the living room. Stop stacking those books in piles in the corner! Storage ottomans are a great way to disguise storage as something stylish to rest on. Put your extra blankets in there!
Bedrooms can be tricky to declutter because there’s just so much stuff you need on a daily basis and it’s just so much more convenient to keep it out and ready to go. But if you have well -placed storage pieces that won’t be a problem! Position a nightstand right next to your bed for all of your pre-sleep rituals like moisturizing your face, checking your Facebook, or reading a book. Getting ready in the morning can be easier if you just combined a mirror with your dresser. Easily pick your shoes, socks or tights, and any other accessories whilst looking in the mirror.
Arguably the kitchen/dining room has the most stuff. A lot of times it’s a fight to fit it all in the cabinets, stop fighting! Get yourself a sideboard or curio where all of your glassware and dishes can go. Add a little bar area with a server piece to keep the booze and alcohol-related dishware away from the cereal bowls. You’ve got to put all of those wine bottles somewhere! A sort of “filing” cabinet for the dining room can’t hurt. Things always accumulate in this room like magic. Make sure that all of your furniture pieces are sturdy and strong because they’ll be holding your precious breakables!
